Best Friends
The Art of Cultivating Friendships
June 11th 18:30-20:30 CET - Online
Best Friends is a painting by Laura Lee Zanghetti
While numerous resources exist for improving family, romantic, or workplace relationships, finding guidance on cultivating friendships can be more challenging. Children's books and series often highlight the significance of friendship, emphasising belonging, care, compassion, sharing adventurous experiences and character growth.
As we transition from childhood to adulthood and move beyond school or university settings, building and maintaining friendships can become less straightforward. Unlike romantic or workplace relationships, which have established frameworks, norms and principles, determining the health and progress of friendships can be less clear. For example, how do you know you are in a good friendship? How do you make friends as an adult? What can you expect from a friendship?
This workshop aims to explore the art of cultivating friendships, suggesting that meaningful friendships enrich both individual experiences and the lives of others. Through introspection, dialogue, and a blend of theoretical insights from Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology, you will:
Gain a deeper understanding of friendship and what it means to you
Be in touch with what you appreciate in your current friendships and what you are not satisfied with
Explore strategies for nurturing existing friendships and/or make new ones
By engaging in experiential activities and reflective discussions, you will explore these questions with both your mind and your heart.
The Facilitators
Pascal Nonnen - Change Facilitator, Co-Active Coach, Friend
Pascal’s vision is to build a retreat place for people to learn who they truly are and what they can offer to the world. For 5 years, his work has been to support individuals, teams and organisations to drive systemic change on today’s wicked challenges - e.g. digitalization, climate change, or fighting inequality. He does this through 1:1 coachings and workshop facilitation, with a focus on leadership development for change makers across the globe. Currently, Pascal is researching at the intersection between leadership, the good life, and systemic change making (PhD’ing). Pascal loves to delve into different cultures through food and music. He can spend hours searching for the song that best captures his moods, and gains immense pleasure from culinary experiences.
Kelley Luyken - Social Change Facilitator, Mediator, Yoga Teacher
Kelley creates spaces for people to connect with themselves, each other, and a grander purpose to bring about change. As consultant and trainer in social innovation, she’s spent years facilitating workshops and change processes toward gender equality and climate justice at NGOs and public organizations. For this, she draws on a rich set of methods: mediation, to navigate conflict and foster understanding across boundaries; yoga, to render change more sustainable by anchoring it in the body; and intersectionality, to make sense of the roles identity and power play as we embark on driving change. Kelley gains inspiration for her work by spending time in nature — taking solo journeys across mountain ranges, climbing on big rocks, or simply watching waves break in the sea.
